How To Deal With Cruise Congestion, Parking

giant traffic jam How To Deal With Cruise Congestion, Parking

It’s already hard to drive or park on Woodward in Oakland County — and the Dream Cruise won’t even start, officially, until 9 a.m. Saturday. Whether you hope to cruise or just want to avoid a traffic jam, here’s fast help Thanks to Bill Laitner at
TRAFFIC: Expect mild congestion today — and gridlock Saturday — on Woodward from 8 Mile to Big Beaver, and from South Boulevard to downtown Pontiac. Woodward will close at 10 tonight and 9 p.m. Saturday, and reopen 90 minutes later each day, from 8 Mile to Maple.

CLOSED STREETS: In Ferndale, West 9 Mile from Woodward to Planavon already is closed and East 9 Mile will close at 7 a.m. today from Woodward to Hilton; the closings will continue until 8 a.m. Sunday. In Berkley, 12 Mile will close from Woodward to Coolidge at 6 tonight, reopening at 7:30 p.m., but only from Woodward to Coolidge; the rest will be closed until midnight tonight. Expect detours on 12 Mile starting at 9 a.m. today in downtown Berkley, from Wakefield to Tyler, but vehicles can get through until the parade starts at 6 p.m.

PARKING: Plan to park off Woodward and walk. Here are two good sites for $10 per space in Royal Oak: Memorial Park at 13 Mile and Coolidge, and Gunn Dyer Park on Hampton south of Normandy (13 1/2 Mile). Warning from Dream Cruise security chief Christopher Jahnke: “Do not block sidewalks, driveways or fire hydrants, or you will be ticketed and towed.”
