Google has self-driving cars. Did you read that write? Google has self-driving cars. Google is recognizing their self-driving vehicle as their “first in robotics research,” and they’ve been testing these cars all over San Francisco. These cars have been noticed out in the public, on normal roads. The cars use video cameras, radar sensors and a laser range finder to “see” other traffic. Map data is collected using manually driven vehicles and the map data is used to navigate the road. Of course, for safety’s sake, or until these cars get more technologically advanced, there’s always a trained human in the drivers seat waiting to take control if need be. Many people wonder what made Google make these cars. They believe that automated cars will eventually be safer than conventional cars and will encourage car-pooling. These cars are still a long way from being mass-produced and open to the public. When they are available, and if they’re reasonably priced, would you buy one? Why or why not? Leave a comment below.
