President Obama’s appearance on Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show” Wednesday night delivered 2.8 million viewers for Comedy Central, up from its average of 1.9, the New York Times reports.

Stewart’s interview with Obama, the first time a sitting U.S. president has appeared on his show was the third-highest rated, behind separate appearances by Obama and his wife, Michelle, in October 2008.

The Web clips of Obama’s interview were also widely viewed. ComedyCentral.com had more than 890,000 streams of the clips. In a period of five hours, streams jumped from 16,000 to 117,000.
