There is a new intelligent pill bottle cap that use flashing lights and audio reminders, as well as phone calls and SMS, to remind patients that it’s time to pop those pills. However, you must have a seriously forgetful mind as this new cap comes as a monthly service, and therefore, a monthly charge. AT&T-connected Vitality GlowCaps are now available on Amazon and the monthly service plan runs between $10 and $15 a month through Vitality connectivity. AT&T and Vitality have joined forces to smooth out the details on the smart Rx bottle caps. Basically, your pill bottle lights up and chimes when it’s time for your meds. As soon as you open the bottle, adherence data is then sent via AT&T to Vitality, who then passes that data on to you, your doctor, and any other third party, in the form of a progress report. The bottle and cap also know when your pill supply is getting low, and will automatically refill your prescription for you. Of course, you’d still have to have the pills picked up from the pharmacy, they don’t just appear, unfortunately. If you’re not blind and can see the cap light up, or are not deaf and can hear the chime go off, then essentially, these technologically advanced pill bottle caps could be responsible for saving your life.
