It’s the magazine photo shoot that is causing quite a stir. Superstar [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm] recently did a magazine photo shoot for a French magazine in which her appearance was altered. French fashion magazine L’Officiel Paris is celebrating its 90th anniversary and “Bey Bey’s” shoot is causing some raised eyebrows.It seems as if her face was darkened.L’Officiel Paris released an official statement explaining the styling and choice to darken [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce[/lastfm]’s face.They also add that the singer’s face was”voluntarily darkened.”In a statement from the magazine, they stand behind their decision:”A return to her African roots, as you can see in the picture, on which her face was voluntarily darkened. All the pictures will be available in the collector edition, on sale at the end of this month.”The style choice, which has been compared to “blackface” has caused some controversy.the darkened make up  choice is supposedly an ode to Nigerian musician and political activist Fela Kuti, who inspired the Broadway show “Fela!”[lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Beyonce [/lastfm] has cited Kuti as an inspiration on her next album.C.C.
