Our sister site MP3.com has been home to digital music discovery since it first hit the Web in 1997. The site relaunched this week with a fantastic Free MP3 of the Day feature that focuses on high-quality songs, each available for a limited 24-hour period. Today they’re featuring [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Moby[/lastfm]’s hit “Be The One.”

Few names are bigger in American dance music than Moby, a man who was largely responsible for bringing electronic music to the masses in the 1990s. In 1992 he burst onto the scene with his debut self-titled album and the surprise hit “Go” which became a British Top Ten hit. Since then Moby has continued to make pop music that challenges the norm, most notably on his fifth album Play, which sold over 10 million copies worldwide. Now the man is back at it again with with his new album Destroyed featuring the late-night dance track “Be The One.”

Describing the inspiration for Destroyed, Moby said, “I don’t sleep very well when I travel. And as a result, I tend to be awake in cities when everyone else is asleep. That’s where this album, and the pictures that accompany it come from. It was primarily written late at night in cities when i felt like I was the only person awake (or alive), a soundtrack for empty cities at 2 a.m, at least that’s how I hear it…”

“Be The One” and the rest of Destroyed definitely have a nocturnal feel to them. The album sees Moby moving away from the guitar driven pop he was making in the early 00’s, back towards the atmospheric electronic music he made his name on in the early 90’s.
