Trey Songz Looks To Jay-Z For Clothing Advice

Before Trey Songz took to the stage last week at Atlanta’s Fox Theaters as part of his “Anticipation 2our,” he sat for a Town Hall-styled chat with fans, in which he discussed his new clothing line and what his mother had to say about his sexually-charged music.

In the live-streamed event, which was billed as V-103‘s “A Conversation With Trey Songz,” he offered some insight into Citi Trends, his new urban clothing venture that will officially launch in the Fall.

“I’m very excited about [Citi Trends],” he told V-103’s Ryan Cameron, who interviewed Trey Songz in front of a gathering of the singer’s dedicated female fans. “It’s doing very well, 10 percent over what is considered good projecticetions. We’ve only been out like three weeks and we are doing better than a lot of the urban companies were doing when they initially launched.”

He said he learned a lot from Jay-Z, whom he has toured with in the past, about business and building his brand.

“Every chance I get, [I talked to Jay-Z],” he said. “When you are on tour with somebody you do forty shows, you see them every day. To not soak up knowledge from Jay-Z, who’s the mogul and entrepreneur…We had discussions about a lot of other things.”

Throughout the talk, Trey took questions from the audience. When asked about his mother’s thoughts on his music, he pointed to her influence on his songs.

“I recorded ‘Neighbors Know My Name’ and ‘Panty Droppa’ in the same day and I was very excited about ‘Panty Droppa,'” he said. He went on to explain how his mother chose “Neighbors” as the single. “She knows how to separate Trey Songz from Tremaine. She comes to the show and walks out on certain parts and comes back.”

The entire interview can be viewed at V-103.
