Nicki Minaj Explains Twitter Breakdown

Twitter hasn’t been the same for Nicki Minaj’s 11 million-plus followers since she shut down her account earlier this week and left many Barbz scratching their wig-topped heads. While Minaj has yet to return to Twitter, she has broken her silence and offered some explanation for her online breakdown.

Nicki didn’t give any specific justification for the blackout, but the rapper with multiple alter egos credited “a voice” for the impulsive move.

“A voice in my head told me to delete my Twitter and that’s what I did,” she told the BBC’s Graham Norton Show, according to the Daily Mail. “I had 11 million followers and I hope they will wait for me.”

She made an appeal for her fans’ support, but she did not confirm that she will indeed return.

“I don’t know yet, I’m thinking about it,” she said. “I miss my Barbz, please bear with me.”

As earlier reported by CBS Local, Minaj shocked the twitterverse Sunday (April 15) when she deactivated her Twitter account in a huff, prompting millions of her followers to demand her return.

“Like seriously, its but so much a person can take. Good f**king bye,” was her last tweet before @NickiMinaj went dark.

The hashtag #NickiComeBack became a trending topic shortly after she deleted her account, as Barbz everywhere attempted to appeal to her in 140 characters or less.

While Minaj didn’t explicitly say why she decided to drop her Twitter handle, her departure came after a few twitter tiffs she had with some of her fans. Before going dark, she blocked @NickiDaily, an account from a fan site that she accused of leaking music from her album.

A day before she pulled the plug, she gave some indication that trouble was brewing. She sent out the following tweets:

“And that’s exactly why I’m paying the barbz DUST right now! And deleting my twitter. Smdh – don’t cry 4 me argentina.”

“On 2nd thought I’ll just follow a new set of barbz. The ones I follow r very mean and ratchet.*side eyes them*”

The episode of Graham Norton Show featuring Nicki Minaj will aire tonight on BBC. –Erik Parker, CBS Local
