West Hartford, Connecticut, native Javier Colon is a local celebrity these days and is often noticed when he’s around town.

“For some reason, everybody at the Cheesecake Factory knows me,” he joked during an interview with 96.5 TIC/Hartford.

When he first got back to town after winning the first season of The Voice, Javier said virtually everyone recognized him, stopping to get a picture or offer congratulations. “It was really, really flattering. It doesn’t get old. It’s been amazing,” he said.

Have there been any crazy moments that go beyond flattering? Not really, he said aside from the occasional person following him creepily in silence, which can get awkward.

Javier was happy to perform this past weekend with his fellow Voice winner Jermaine Paul, but it’s not the first time the two singers have crossed paths. Javier previously met Jermaine during the new winner’s stint as a backup singer for Alicia Keys, and of course during the semi-finals of Season Two when Javier re-appeared on the hit series. “He’s a great guy, super talented, and I’m really excited to do a show with him.”

Javier has a busy touring schedule in the upcoming weeks and will also perform at the White House on July 4th for a show called The Capital Fourth along with the National Symphony Orchestra. “It’s going to be an amazing opportunity,” he said.
