#TrendingOnThe10s: Mitch Winehouse Speaks Out

Amy Winehouse’s dad appeared on “Piers Morgan Tonight” yesterday to talk about her life and her music and her passing.

Even though it seems like just yesterday, the one-year anniversary of Amy Winehouse‘s death is approaching. Her father Mitch Winehouse has written a book entitled “Amy, My Daughter,” where he talks about her final studio album, “Back to Black.” The album was mostly inspired by her relationship with ex-husband Blake Fielder-Civil and her winning five Grammy awards in 2008. In the book, however, her father is hard on his daughter’s musical inspiration:

“It occurred to me recently that one of the biggest-selling UK albums of the 21st century so far is all about the biggest low-life that God ever put breath into,” he writes in the memoir.

After listening to Piers Morgan read the passage aloud, Winehouse stands by his story:

“That’s right, I did say that. And it’s true. Amy was besotted with Blake for a period of time, and his way of showing how much he loved her, was to – in his own words – he introduced her to Class A drugs and she took to it like a duck to water.”

The singer and songwriter died as a result of alcohol poisoning in July of 2011 at 27 years old. Her father doesn’t hold Fielder-Civil directly responsible for the death, HOWEVER, he feels his daughter’s ex-husband DOES have some responsibility to take into account.

“Of course, I don’t blame Blake for Amy’s death. That was just a terribly unfortunate accident,” he tells Piers Morgan. “But he has to be responsible, for the fact that he introduced her to Class A drugs. Whether she would have found her way to Class A drugs without him, who knows? But he stood up and said it was him, so, that’s who we point the finger at,” said her dad.
