Last night was the All-Star week’s Home Run Derby contest, and our very own Prince Fielder has become the first Detroit Tiger to EVER win the contest!  He is also only the second player to win the contest more than one time.  AND he is the only player to ever win it in the American League and in the National League!  Prince is the Home Run King!

Last night, 8 major league baseball players competed in the Home Run Derby, which is part of the All-Star Break.  Prince was involved with the contest, representing not only the American League, but the Detroit Tigers!  Prince only hit 5 home runs in the first round, but wowed the crowd with 11 in the second round!  Then in the 3rd and final round, Prince beat out Toronto’s Jose Bautista for the home run crown!

“Oh, it’s fun,” he said, “and when these guys are out there, they are having a blast. And especially when you have kids, when you see your kids having a good time and seeing how much they enjoy it, you have a good time, as well. I’m just happy that I’m healthy and able to be here and happy that they like it, too.”

Tonight is the All-Star Game in Kansas City, which is on FOX, starting at 7:30 PM!  Prince will be starting at 1st base, and is the first Tiger to do so since his father did!  Miguel Cabrera is a backup at 3rd base.  And Justin Verlander will be the starting pitcher tonight for the 83rd All-Star game!  You can watch clips from the Home Run Derby, here!
