Carly Rae Jepsen’s upcoming album has quite the roster. While some collaborations were more organic, like her duet with Justin Bieber, others came about randomly.

Carly spoke with MTV News of how she first ran into LMFAO’s Redfoo after Canada’s MuchMusic Video Awards and how they came to write together.

“I actually met him in the airport after the MMVA’s. I didn’t have security with me and his security came when I got paparazzi’d,” she recalled. “So he saved me and then we made friends and we started working on a song together. [We] actually wrote the majority of that song over the phone together.”

Carly said her album, which is due for release in September, will be pop with a hint of dance-pop and folk-pop. While she wouldn’t reveal too much about the song with Justin Bieber she did explain the backstory.

“It’s a really lovely song. The way he presented it was pretty cool. It was my first time meeting him. I was at the studio, and he basically just said, ‘What do you think of this song?’ and I was like, ‘Wow, I love it.'”

In addition to working with Bieber she also joined forces with fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff.

“That was sort of a random collaboration of us both really digging what the other person did,” she said.

As far as when fans can expect the album, Carly tells Rolling Stone she doesn’t know the exact date.

“Definitely in time for the fall. I want to have it in time for the Justin Bieber tour.”
