Frank Ocean will be the musical guest on the season opener of Saturday Night Live. The genre-stretching R&B singer will be joined by Family Guy creator, comedian Seth MacFarlane.

The September 15 season opener will jumpstart SNL‘s 38th season. Ocean’s debut will be followed by musical guests Mumford & Sons (Sept. 22) and Muse (Oct. 6), SNL announced.

Before he makes his debut on SNL, Ocean will be touching down, for the first time, on the MTV Music Video Awards stage. Earlier this week, MTV announced that Ocean would be joining the cast of performers, that includes Rihanna, Demi Lovato and  Alicia Keys

Earlier in August, Ocean canceled his European tour dates that were scheduled from 8/12 – 9/22. But the singer didn’t give specific reason for shutting down the shows.

“Let me start by saying I feel like an a**hole right now,” Ocean said of the show cancellations. “But a tough decision had to be made in regard to my schedule over the next months and the casualties of that decision include my appearances at upcoming festivals in Europe and my opening slot on the European leg of the Coldplay world tour. Sorry as f***, I’ll be back if you’ll have me.” —Erik Parker, CBS Local
