I write this with tears in my eyes.  I just played  on AMP the DJ Sammy ‘Heaven 9-11″  remix, and now I’m all emotional!  Life and death is real, and on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001 America woke up to the worst attack ever on our Country.  That morning I was holding my 4 month old baby, and we were watching cartoons.  My Grandmother was visiting us in Chicago from Michigan.  She said to me, “Honey why do you have cartoons on, the baby is too young.  Please put on Good Morning America.”  I switched the channel, and moments later the second plane hit the World Trade Center. Since we were just tuning in, I was so confused on what I just saw.   As the details came in that the second plane was definitely not a random crash, I totally panicked.

We were living in downtown Chicago in a hi-rise condo on the 42nd floor, just a few blocks away from the John Hancock building.  The city of Chicago was shut down with the fear that we were the “next” big city to be targeted.  I can’t tell you how scared I felt.  Suddenly my beautiful view of the city felt unsafe.  I had to go to work that day, and being that I’m in the media, I had to pull it together.  Usually the sidewalks are packed with people on the go like me, but by 1pm when I left for work on Sept. 11th, downtown was pretty empty.  That was a very strange feeling when you live in a big city that’s usually  very much alive and thriving.   I thought of so many things.  I kept seeing the images of desperate people jumping out the windows of the Twin Towers, I could see the faces of New Yorkers crying in the street.  The smoke that filled the air in NYC was not some Hollywood production, it was real.    As  I walked to work  that day I wondered if I would ever see my family again… What else was this day going to bring.  Nobody knew…

I was the afternoon host for B96 in Chicago, a CBS radio station just like Amp.  We were a fun Top 40 music driven station!  On Sept. 11th, 2001 we became a different radio station.  I never pursued the news side of broadcasting because it’s too depressing to report sadness everyday.  I felt different on the morning of Sept. 11th, and  I was ready to connect with my audience on this emotional day, and help everyone get through it.  I never did talk radio, but that day I did.

May God continue to bless the family and friends to those who lost their loved ones.  To our fallen hero’s, we will never forget you..  We will always remember…
