MIHealthy Campaign Urges Residents To Take The 10% Pledge

DETROIT (98.7 AMP) How can you have a healthier tomorrow? Start today.

As Michigan continues to be in the worst zone of bad health statistics — like smoking and obesity — and their possible outcomes including diabetes and asthma — the state has decided to take action.

Michigan has launched a campaign called “MiHealthy” to encourage the state to shape up for longer, healthier lives.

And this time it’s serious.

The campaign includes a pledge to lose 10 percent of you body weight, and everyone who makes the pledge receives a free kit in the mail with information and coupons to make it easier to lose weight. Those who take the pledge can share it with friends and family. Make the pledge HERE.

Why 10 percent?

The campaign says losing just 10 percent of your body weight can make significant improvements to both your physical and mental health. A 10 percent weight loss for those who are overweight can:

  • Improve blood pressure
  • Lower cholesterol levels
  • Improve heart health
  • Decrease risk of Type 2 diabetes
  • Strengthen the immune system
  • Decrease back and joint pain
  • Improve breathing and sleep
  • Increase energy and stamina
  • Improve mood and self-confidence
