Was it auctioned off for charity? Lost in a high-stakes bet during another trans-Atlantic flight on a private jet? A typo gone rogue?

Sometimes, the truth really is in the details.

Eagle-eyed Jay Z fans have started to notice something different about his name in album credits, on Spotify and iTunes, and his website – specifically, that the hyphen that existed for years in his moniker has suddenly vanished. And in most cases, he’s all-caps “JAY Z.” Next stop, symbols!

According to Billboard Editor-in-Chief Joe Levy’s Twitter account, Jay Z’s label Roc Nation alerted him to the official moniker update:

While Levy’s tweet has turned Jay Z’s subtle reinvention into legitimate news, the rapper’s publicist Jana Fleishman has revealed that the hyphen has been gone longer than the rest of the world might realize.

“Dude, we haven’t used the hyphen since 2010,” Fleishman told Complex in a statement.
