Through its ups and down, Glee will come to an end next season. Fans of the once wildly popular FOX show have been wondering how long it would last, amidst declining ratings and tragic setbacks.
Variety reports that, at a Paley Center event last night (October 16), Glee creator Ryan Murphy said the show will not extend its contract past next year’s sixth season. The creator also admitted that after the sudden death of Cory Monteith, who played Finn Hudson, he has had to rethink the ending of the show. Monteith died of drug-related causes back in July.
“The final year of the show, which will be next year, was designed around Rachel and Cory/Finn’s story,” Murphy said. “I always knew that, I always knew how it would end. I knew what the last shot was, he was in it. I knew what the last line was, she said it to him. So when a tragedy like that happens you sort of have to pause and figure out what you want to do, so we’re figuring that out now.”
