Update: Plymouth Teen Runs Away With 37-Year-Old Man – Police Need Help

A Michigan teenager and a grown man left Sunday morning, claiming to be headed out for a hiking trip.

Turns out, 15-year-old Emily Nicole Lalinsky and 37-year-old Robert Louis Messer had actually chosen to run away together, leaving behind cellphones and a note expressing their love for each other.

The man was a family friend, who had known the teen since she was a little girl.  Her mom says, “She’s always looked up to him as a father figure. He’s always been like a brother to me.”

The pair left a note that said,

“We are going today, she and I, because we have to — not because we want to leave you. We are in love and cannot be apart from each other. This is sad to us but our love, though we’ve had to keep it a secret, has been the best part of both our lives. Please be happy for us.”

A missing 15-year-old girl and the 37-year-old male family friend she allegedly ran away with have been found in a Michigan field with self-inflicted wounds to the wrist.

Emily Lalinksy and Robert Messer were taken to separate hospitals to be treated for the identical ‘superficial’ wounds after they were found on Tuesday afternoon.

The guy is now in police custody pending charges.

Authorities had been searching for the missing teen since she vanished from her home on Sunday, leaving a note describing her love for the much older family friend, and saying they wouldn’t be coming back.

Earlier, a former neighbor said that she regularly saw the couple ‘kissing in his truck and holding hands.’
