Philip Seymour Hoffman Found Dead in New York Apartment: Report

Reports are surfacing that Academy-award winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his New York City home this morning.

According to the New York PostHoffman was allegedly discovered by his personal assistant in the bathroom of his Greenwich Village apartment with a hypodermic needle in his arm, causing speculation that his cause of death was related to a drug overdose. While police are still investigating, the NY Post adds that what is believed to be heroin was also found at the scene.

CBS New York reports that Hoffman, who won an Oscar for his role in 2005’s Capote, had a history of drug abuse and spent time in rehab last year.

Hoffman leaves behind longtime partner Mimi O’Donnell, with whom he had three children. He was 46 years old.
