Actor/comedian Seth Rogen took the microphone yesterday at a Senate hearing on Alzheimer’s Research, and made a memorable testimony about the disease which has affected his mother-in-law, Adele.

In a video released by C-Span, Rogen outlines the diagnosis of the mother of his wife Lauren, which came when she was just 54-years-old. By the time Adele was 60, Rogen says the longtime teacher had forgotten, “how to speak, feed herself, dress herself and go to the bathroom herself,” and most devastatingly, had completely forgotten herself and her loved ones.

As a celebrity champion for the Alzheimer’s Association, Rogen goes on to say that the stigma attached to the disease, which is one of the top ten causes of death in the U.S., needs to end.

“Americans whisper the words Alzheimer’s because their government whispers the words Alzheimer’s,” he tells the committee members. “It needs to be yelled and screamed to the point that it finally gets the attention and the funding it deserves and needs.”

In true Seth Rogen-fashion, the 31-year-old actor also lightened the otherwise depressing situation by making jokes at his own expense.

“That’s right, the situation is so dire that it caused me, a lazy, self-involved, generally self-medicated man-child, to start an entire charity organization,” Rogen jokes when explaining he and his wife’s nonprofit, Hilarity for Charity, which raises awareness about Alzheimer’s Disease among teens.

“I came here today for a few reasons,” Rogen goes on to say in some of his final comments. “One, I’m a huge ‘House of Cards’ fan. Just marathoned the whole thing. Had to be here. Two is to say people need more help.”
