Iraq War Vet From Michigan Reunites With Former Military Dog

You might want to grab your tissues for this one…

Last week, Sgt. Jason Bos of Grand Rapids, MI reunited with bomb-sniffing dog Cila, of whom he’d been the handler for five years, partially while in Iraq.

According to The Chicago Tribune, Bos had not worked alongside Cila, or “Cici” as he calls her, in nearly two years and was fairly certain he’d probably never have the chance to be reunited with the chocolate Lab that he’d grown so attached to while overseas.

However, when the 33-year-old soldier came across a Facebook post that stated Cici was set to retire from active duty, he jumped at the chance to finally bring her into his family with the help of the American Humane Association and Mission Canine Rescue.

On Wednesday (April 30), Bos drove to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport to meet Cici, who was flying in from Germany. Prior to their reunion, Bos told The Chicago Tribune, “I hope she remembers my voice,” and remember she did.

“They tell you not to get too attached, that they’re not a pet, they’re a tool to help keep people safe,” Bos explained of his relationship with Cici. “But it’s hard.”

“Her whole life has been about working,” he continued. “Now it’s time for her to worry about just relaxing.”
