A decade after dropping the ‘Lil’ from his name, Bow Wow is planning to once again change up his moniker.

One week ahead of the BET Awards, the 27-year-old rapper revealed that he would be going back to his given name, Shad Moss, after the ceremony on June 29.

“ANNOUNCEMENT: After BET awards i will no longer go by Bow Wow!” the former child star wrote on Instagram on Sunday. “Im going by my real name ‘Shad Moss’ we made alot of history as bow wow. Now its time for the next chapter and challenge.”

“Bow wow does not fit who i am today,” he added. “Ima father, business man, TV host, Actor, and rapper! Time for MR Moss to take over!”

Bow Wow first hit the scene as Lil’ Bow Wow in 2000 at the young age of 13. Six albums later, the rapper has also added ‘actor’ to his repertoire, appearing on Entourage as well as in the Fast & Furious franchise, among various other TV and movie roles.

Most recently, Moss signed on as host of the show 106 & Park on BET, and has a new record, entitled Underrated, set for release in 2015.

Utilizing his hosting skills, Bow Wow will also act as official ambassador of the BET Awards’ red carpet preshow and will be presented with the first ever Viewer’s Choice Award at the ceremony on Sunday.
