As you might have gleaned from his monologues and interviews over the past year, Kanye West is very focused on his fashion design career. Last year, he teamed up with the French luxury brand A.P.C. on a capsule collection of basics and, this July 17, his second collaboration with founder Jean Touitou will be released.

The most interesting aspect of the pair’s collaborations though hasn’t even been the clothes. After their first collaboration, Touitou gave a revealing interview to W — as part of Kanye’s cover story — about the process of working with Kanye. (“It took us two years to create just three items,” he said.)

Now, he’s opening up about his working relationship with Kanye once again, this time for Not surprisingly, the interview is a fascinating lens into how Kanye approaches design. Here are the five best takeaways.


1. This collaboration wasn’t as challenging as the last 

“The process was easier the second time because we have learned more from each other, and then also we stopped by the military archive. It was surprisingly easier the second time, except at the end.”
