In a statement to People, a rep for the former couple said, “Mandy Moore and Ryan Adams have mutually decided to end their marriage. It is a respectful, amicable parting of ways and both Mandy and Ryan are asking for media to respect their privacy at this time.”

Moore (30) and Adams (40) have been notoriously private about their relationship, marrying quietly in 2009 and rarely showing up to public events together.

Just last March, the two singers seemed happy as they celebrated their fifth anniversary surrounded by friends and family.

Moore even shared a photo of their marriage certificate on Instagram and wrote, “The best 5 years…”

Still, we shouldn’t expect the either of the stars to comment on their split, particularly Ryan Adams, who has always been tight-lipped about his marriage.

“I’m a private person and I’ll be a gentleman and say I’m not talking about my marriage ever,” he said after being asked about his relationship last fall. “I’ll never talk about it. Ever.”
