The summer isn’t quite over, but Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston definitely are.

After their 3-month whirlwind romance, which took them everywhere from Rhode Island to Nashville to Rome to Australia and beyond, news broke earlier today that ‘Hiddleswift’ had called it quits.

Though sources initially cited their split as being ‘amicable,’ other reports have since surfaced that paint a different picture.

According to Us Weeklyit was Swift who initiated the breakup, mostly because she wasn’t comfortable bringing their relationship into the spotlight.

“She was the one to put the brakes on the relationship,” an insider said. “Tom wanted the relationship to be more public than she was comfortable with. Taylor knew the backlash that comes with public displays of affection but Tom didn’t listen to her concerns when she brought them up.”

They also added that the Thor actor is “embarrassed that the relationship fizzled out.”

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail has reported that Swift got a little weirded out when Hiddleston wanted her to be his date to this year’s Emmy Awards.

“Tom’s need for their relationship to be so public so quickly makes her uncomfortable,” a source said. “She tried to be OK with it in the beginning but fears he is in love with the idea of her and not falling in love with her for the right reasons.”

“Taylor is an independent young woman and doesn’t feel like she needs a boyfriend to make her complete,” they added.
