A couple of years ago, Ben Stiller was going through a very scary time.

During a recent interview with Howard Stern, the Zoolander star revealed that he was diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2014 at the age of 48.

“It came out of the blue for me. I had no idea,” the now 50-year-old actor explained. “At first, I didn’t know what was gonna happen. I was scared. It just stopped everything in your life because you can’t plan for a movie because you don’t know what’s gonna happen.”

Thankfully, his doctor was able to catch it early, and Stiller (now cancer-free) is speaking out in the hopes of inspiring others to get checked.

“I wanted to talk about it because of the [PSA] test … I feel like the test saved my life,” he told Stern.”It’s the second most deadly cancer, but it’s about one of the most curable.”

“Afterwards, it just gives you an appreciation for life,” he added of his diagnosis. “Every six months I’m taking my PSA [prostate-specific antigen] test to make sure I’m clear.”
