Chance the Rapper’s #BlackBoyJoy has inspired a strong fanbase, but one fan took it way too far during the Chicago rapper’s Magnificent Coloring World Tour stop in Miami last night (Oct 10). He rushed the stage while Chance was performing.
As Chance danced across the stage with smoke effects adding to the energy, a man rushed in stage left and grabbed Chance from behind. He was naturally taken aback, and ended up body slamming the fan to the ground as security rushed in. Chance lost his iconic “3” hat in the process.
Like the fan who rushed onstage to hug Fifth Harmony’s Ally Brooke in late September, Chance’s fan didn’t seem like he wanted to hurt the rapper. But that still doesn’t excuse breaking past security to insert yourself into the show. Chance’s sheer joy and vitality has certainly created a strong connection with his listeners, but in the wake of Christina Grimmie’s death at the hands of a deranged fan it’s even more important to respect the boundary between audience and the artist on stage.
